Tradisjonelt har orienteringskart blitt trykket med analog 5-/6-fargetrykk i offset med rene farger. Bruken av fargeskrivere og fargekopimaskiner i framstillingen av orienteringskart har mange fordeler (mulighet for mindre opplag til en rimelig penge, enkel høykvalitets løypepåtrykking, konkurransedyktig pris, fleksibilitet, ...). Kvaliteten som oppnås med denne nye utskriftsteknologien begynner å nærme seg o-kartstandard, samtidig som prisene stadig går nedover.
Denne WWW-sida har blitt etablert for å overvåke utviklingen, og for å gjøre informasjon om dette viktige tekniske området tilgjengelig for de som produserer o-kart. Vi håper at denne "kunnskapsdatabasen" vil være nyttig for alle dere som ønsker å oppnå best mulige resultater med denne teknoligen.
Dagens ISOM (kartnormen) tillater ikke andre metoder for "trykking" av orienteringskart enn tradisjonell 5-/6-farge offsettrykking. En av grunnene til dette er at offsettrykking er etablert teknologi som gir utmerkede resultater med de rådende kvalitetssikringsrutinene. Vi har vi ennå ikke sett noe som tåler en sammenligning med klassisk offsettrykking med rene farger når det gjelder kvalitet på det ferdige o-kartet. Men utviklingen innenfor konkurrerende teknologi går framover med forbløffende hastighet, så om ikke lenge kan vi ha konkurrenter...
Traditionally orienteering maps have been printed using analog 5-6 colour offset printing using pure colour inks. The use of colour printers/copiers for printing orienteering maps have many advantages (smaller numbers, easy course (over)printing, price(?), convenience / flexibility, ...). The technology is steadily improving and the prices are also going down.
This WWW-page has been established in order to monitor the development of - and to make information about this important technical area available to producers of orienteering maps. We hope that this common pool of knowledge will be useful to those that want to achieve the best possible results using this technology.
The current ISOM does not allow other printing means than traditional 5-6 colour offset printing for orienteering maps. One of the reasons for this is that offset printing is proven technology that give outstanding results with current quality assurance procedures. We have still not seen anything that is comparable in quality to classic offset printing, but the improvements of competing technologies have been remarkable, and we might get there sometime soon.

testkart). Vi har også laget ei PDF-fil med
mønstre som kan brukes til å sjekke oppløsningen på skrivere.
Vi har scannet noen av testprintene vi har mottatt og presentert dem i en tabell (sammenligning med offsettrykt kart).

The fact that a method is listed below does not
mean that the resulting maps are of a quality suitable for orienteering
competitions!
If you would like to test a printer, please use the test
files available at our test
pages (including an OCAD test print). We have also made a PDF file with patterns that can be used for
checking the resolution of printers.
We have scanned some of the test prints we have received
and have presented them in a table (including a
comparison with an offset printed map).

Teslin and Zecom were the best, and had very little toner loss.
They also seemed to wash easily, especially Teslin.
We found that the printer needed service (replacement of the corona wire
and such) after each 1000 or so sheets.
The weakest aspects of this specific printer are fine dense rock detail,
and printing large print runs (>1000 sheets) at once. H. Tveite Apoc 2002, day 3 (1:15000): Blue lines very sharp, but with a very thin yellow-brownish rim on one side. Marshes nice, small raster-effect every 6mm. Contours a little fuzzy. Black lines fuzzy ("snakelike" appearance) - strange. Nice colours (very fine line rasters). Kind of glossy appearance. Overprinting effect not used. | ||||||||
